Job Description

We are looking for a business-focused organisational powerhouse with experience in design for large-format print. Your mission is to take on our current print department, guided by our Design Director, and maximise its output, sales opportunities, and overall profitability. You have a background in large-format printing with a strong knowledge of printing processes.

As the Print Services Manager, you will be overseeing multiple projects within a fast-paced and dynamic creative workflow, ensuring work is delivered on time, to the required level of quality and within budget. The scope of work includes any external printing in addition to the work of the internal print department.

The key purpose of this role is to develop our print department, this is a starting point with bags of potential. You must be self-motivated, driven and own the projects assigned to you. Great project management skills are essential, and you must communicate clearly.

This is an opportunity to take on a tried and tested formula with a great print support team, then level up everything around it. You must be willing to take on all aspects of the work, from proofing artwork and problem-solving file issues to helping cost prints and developing sub-contractor relationships.

You would play a key part in organising this part of the business, working closely with the design director, product development team and commercial department to develop strategies to reduce costs, increase efficiency and maximise sales. Another way we are looking to make this area of our business more profitable is to increase the number of printed products we offer, be that through customising our rental stock and building new products or through subcontracted suppliers of products we are currently unable to print in-house.
Currently we operate an Epson roll to roll printer, paired with an easy mount laminator and generic vinyl cutter. We also have a MagicMount flat table vinyl applicator (similar to a Rolls Roller). Print orders come from our sales team as part of either rental or sale-oriented jobs. From there artwork is either supplied by the client via the sales account handler or we quote to create in-house. Next step is to proof the artwork for client sign off, then following approval the designs are prepped and sent to print. The Print team then facilitate the job unless this has been outsourced. You would take on helping facilitate all the steps discussed above as well as helping guide the future of the department.

The print team currently consists of one print technician who runs all the machines and facilitates the print orders. Art working is taken on by one of our Graphic design team, but this is something you would take over as part of the role. In addition, to increase the department turnover, the long-term aim would be to increase staff in both print and design to meet capacity.

The core of our business revolves around our unmatched rental stock of over 15,000 products. The Print team help manages our internal stock team of upwards of 900 products which all carry their own set stock levels. This involves preparing the upcoming week’s prints for the rental items going out while also repairing products and replacing them when necessary, as well as increasing stock and producing new rental items. As part of the role, you would be trained on all the relevant machinery to increase your understanding of the specific machines we operate.

Responsibilities

• Responding to and troubleshooting all print issues.
• Working with the sales team, account handlers and project managers on best methods and materials for production.
• Briefing & working alongside production staff to make sure each project is produced to the highest quality.
• Helping create appropriate website content aligned with the marketing strategy for the design to print department.
• Creating strategies to grow print turnover.
• Planning and managing of staff and overtime.
• Quality checking on final product prior to despatch.
• Working within the H&S framework of the business & understanding risks and where they may occur.
• Keeping up-to-date with industry best practices and monitoring competitor websites.

Skills/attributes required

• Strong knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite with a focus on Adobe Illustrator for large format. We work with Windows OS.
• Proven experience and understanding of the latest print processes (litho and digital), colour management, press passing and print buying is also advantageous.
• Relevant experience in workflow, production and project management, preferably gained in a creative agency or in a medium sized in-house studio.
• Able to motivate and encourage staff to achieve their highest quality of work.
• Proactive and Innovative
• Fantastic time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
• UK Driving License

9:00am to 5:30pm, Mon – Fri
